Davison, van Dorp Advance On Day Four Of Olympic Regatta

July 30, 2024

PARIS – On a relatively light day of action for UW alumni at the 2024 Olympics rowing venue, two former Huskies successfully advanced in the men's single and double sculls.

American Ben Davison '18 finished second in his men's double sculls semifinal, booking a place in the A final Thursday, when medals will be awarded. In a men's single sculls quarterfinal, Simon van Dorp '20 of the Netherlands earned a win, and with it a spot in an A/B semifinal. The top three in that race will earn a berth in the medal final.

"Everything is going to plan," Davison told USRowing.org. "Everything we did in the heat went to plan. Everything we did today went to plan, and we're going to keep pressing forward in the final."

On Wednesday, for the first time this Olympiad, a UW alum will row for a medal, as German Tabea Schendekehl '20, and her German quad sculls crewmates will race for a medal in the A final, at 3:38 a.m. PT.

Also, Wednesday, American Teal Cohen '21 will race in the women's quad sculls B final, and USA teammate Jessica Thoennes '18 will compete in a women's pairs A/B semifinal, looking for a top-three finish and a spot in the A final.
