Sarah Dougherty and
Marlee Blue have been named to the USRowing Under-23 team that will travel to the U23 World Championships next month in Rotterdam, USRowing has announced.
Dougherty, who completed her career at the UW this past spring, will row in the bow seat in the U.S. women's eight. A product of Kentlake High in Kent, Wash., Dougherty was named a CRCA first-team All-American last spring. Blue, from Holy Names Academy in Seattle, will row in the women's four at the U23 World Championships. As a freshman at the UW last spring, she spent most of the season rowing in the stroke seat in the UW's second varsity eight.
In addition to Dougherty and Blue, the UW played seven men on the U.S. Under-23 squad: Ben Davison in the single sculls; Samuel O'Brien in the lightweight quad sculls; and Rielly Milne, Sean Kelly, Samuel Pettet, Arne Landboe and Ezra Carlson in the men's coxed four (coached by UW assistant
Niles Garratt).
Additionally, Sam Goertz earned a place on the Canadian team as a member of the coxed four crew.
The Under-23 World Championships will be held Aug. 21-28 in Rotterdam. See the link at the top right of this story for the full USRowing Under-23 team.
