The No. 1-ranked Washington men's rowing team travels south to Redwood City, Calif., to take on No. 11 Stanford for the Andrea and Everett Peter Paup Cup this Saturday morning.
The Huskies will row in the varsity eight and second varsity eight vs. the Cardinal, and also race head-to-head vs. Wisconsin in the third varsity eight, on the Redwood Shores racecourse. Here is the schedule:
9:10 a.m. PT – Varsity Eights vs. Stanford
9:50 a.m. PT – Second Varsity Eights vs. Stanford
10:20 a.m. PT – Third Varsity Eights vs. Wisconsin
The UW races are part of a larger regatta that includes most of the West Coast's varsity programs, including California, Oregon State, UC San Diego and Santa Clara, along with Washington, Stanford and Wisconsin.
Fans can watch a live video stream at Overnght.com (for a subscription fee). That same website will also stream the IRA National Championship Regatta at season's end. Fans can also follow the results via the "Live Results" link at the top-right of this page.
The trophy for UW-Stanford is named for former UW and Stanford coxswain Everett "Pete" Paup, a U.S. Marine veteran who finished second in the coxed pair at the 1956 U.S. Olympic Trials and went on to become chairman and president of Manson Construction Company.
Paup attended and was a coxswain for both Stanford and Washington and supported both programs during his lifetime. He passed away in December, 2024.
Last year, Washington and Stanford met as part of the Sarasota Invitational weekend in Florida. On the first say of that event, the Huskies raced both Stanford and Harvard in a double-dual, with the Huskies winning both the varsity eight and second varsity eight races against both opponents.
Following this weekend's action, the Huskies revisit another long-standing rivalry when they travel to Vancouver Lake (Vancouver, Wash.) to take on Oregon State in a dual regatta.
