The No. 1-ranked Washington women's rowing team travels to Lake Las Vegas this Saturday to square off with two of the top-10 teams in the country, No. 3 Texas and No. 10 Michigan, in a three-team regatta.

Washington, which opened its season with a sweep of races against USC on Lake Las Vegas on March 3, had last weekend off. After the trip to Vegas this weekend, the Huskies take on No. 2-ranked California the following Saturday, April 21, at Redwood Shores.

"The team is excited to go back to Las Vegas," said UW women's coach Yasmin Farooq. "We're all looking at this venue as a possible site for the future for all of the conferences. It will be our third time there, but this gives it some exposure to the Big 12 and Big Ten Conferences."

Last season, the Wolverines finished third overall at the NCAA Championship Regatta, with Texas right behind them in fourth place.

"It's really important in NCAA selections and seedings that you row outside of your conference," Farooq said. "And it's really important to get to race against high-level opponents. At the midpoint of the season, it's exciting for all three teams to get this kind of valuable experience."

All three programs will have one entry each in the three NCAA categories: the first and second varsity eights and the varsity four. Here is the schedule (the event starts at 9:00 a.m.; time between races has yet to be determined):

RACE SCHEDULE
9:00 a.m. PT – Varsity 4+

ABOUT WASHINGTON ROWING
Rowing at University of Washington was established in 1901 with support from the local business community. In 1903, Washington entered its first intercollegiate race and defeated California, starting their storied "Cal Dual" rivalry. From this beginning, UW crews became the champions in the nation, winning the Gold Medal in the Olympics in 1936 as described in the New York Times bestseller The Boys in the Boat. UW has continued its tradition of winning championships and Olympic medals, and today is one of the best university rowing programs in the world. With its state-of-the-art training facility located on the UW campus right on the shores of Lake Washington, surrounded by mountains and in close proximity to the iconic Montlake Cut, Washington Rowing attracts the best men and women student-athletes from the Pacific Northwest and around the world.
