Washington sweeps Pac-12 Men's and Women's Rowing Championship

GOLD RIVER, Calif. – For the first time since 1997 WASHINGTON claimed the Pac-12 Men’s and Women’s Rowing Championship.

On the men’s side, Washington collected 72 team points for the title, winning three of the four scoring races. CALIFORNIA came close in second place with 65 points and OREGON STATE totaled 50 points to round out the podium placing.

With the Conference title on the line in the varsity eight race, the Huskies held on strong throughout the entire course and finished in 5:36.321. California crossed the line second in 5:40.567 and STANFORD was third in 5:51.972.

The Huskies claimed the second varsity eight title in a time of 5:40.209. California closely followed in 5:43.166 and Oregon State followed in 5:57.880*. First and second were again claimed by Washington (5:45.085) and California (5:47.491), respectively, in the men’s third varsity eight, and Oregon State claimed third in 6:05.300.

California took home the novice eight title in 5:48.754. Washington followed in 5:54.885 and Oregon State was third in 6:14.488. In the varsity four Washington was first in a time of 6:21.707, California was second in 6:29.221, and Oregon State was third in 6:50.689.

On the women’s side, Washington won all four scoring races. The Huskies claimed the team title with 45.5 points, followed by California in second place (39 points) and Stanford in third with 31.5 points.

It marked the Huskies' first Pac-12 women's title since 2003. UW capped the day with a win in the varsity eight, crossing the finish line in a time of 6:11.638, followed by California in second in 6:15.398 and Stanford in third in 6:19.576.

The story was the same for the second varsity eight, with Washington leading the competition in a time of 6:18.047. California placed second in 6:20.350 and Stanford in third in 6:28.927.

The Huskies took home the third varsity eight title in 6:21.724, with California placing second in 6:24.793 and Stanford in 6:47.680. Washington also took home the final trophy in the varsity four, placing first in 6:53.026. California followed close behind 6:56.397 and USC for bronze in 7:10.037.

Next up for Pac-12 crews include the 2017 NCAA Women’s Championships, held at Lake Mercer in West Windsor, NJ May 26-28. The IRA Championships will run June 2-4 in Gold River, Calif. at Lake Natoma.
