GOLD RIVER, Calif. – Washington's women's rowing team placed three in the top five of the pairs competition and three in the top six of the eights Saturday at the Head of the Lake Regatta.

The regatta was held on Lake Natoma, the regular home of the Pac-12 Championships and frequent NCAA championship site. For Saturday's head races, it was a 5,000-meter course.

"It was a quick turnaround from racing at the Head of the Charles in Boston last weekend," UW head coach Yaz Farooq said, "but the team showed up ready to go. The competition was excellent with everyone racing in a variety of lineups and events. The competition in the Pac-12 keeps everyone honest and that's what we love about it. Now we head back home to Seattle where we'll gear up for the Head of the Lake and our amazing hometown crowd."

In the first event of the day that included UW rowers, the women's collegiate pairs, Washington had three of the top five finishers, five of the top 10 and eight of the top 16 in the 45-boat field. Brooke Pierson and Tabea Schendekehl were the Huskies' top finishers, taking third place in 19:28.6. They were just ahead of Jessica Thoennes/Elise Beuke (19:28.8) and Brooke Mooney/Annemieke Schanze (19:29.7), who finished third and fourth, respectively.

A pair from Cal won the collegiate W2- with a time of 19:21.4 while a duo from USC finished second.

After a break, all of the UW rowers who had competed in the pairs reconvened to row in the collegiate women's eights.

The Huskies' three boats finished second, third and sixth in the 26-boat field. The Huskies' A boat, stroked by Pierson and coxed by Phoebe Marks-Nicholes finished in a time of 16:30.0, just ninth-tenths of a second behind California's A boat. Washington's B boat was third and the Husky C entry finished sixth.

Washington wrapped up the day with one entry in the women's open single sculls as newcomer Sofia Asoumanaki finished third with a time of 21:56.7, behind two American national team members.

Next Sunday, Nov. 5, the Husky men's and women's programs wrap up the fall season with the annual Head of the Lake on Lake Washington.
