Washington Rowing will send two entries to the 54th Head of the Charles Regatta this weekend as Huskies will compete in the men's championship singles and men's championship eights.

The Head of the Charles, first held in 1965 on the Charles River in Cambridge and Boston, Mass., is the world's largest two-day rowing competition. The race course is three miles long from its start at Boston University's DeWolfe Boathouse to just shy of Northeastern University's Henderson Boathouse. The course requires the crews to navigate under six different bridges.

Senior Ben Davison will represent the UW in the singles, which gets underway at 4:04 p.m. ET (1:04 p.m. PT) on Saturday. Davison will be the 26th sculler to start in the 33-entry field.

The following day, a Husky eight will row in the men's championship eights, starting at 1:55 p.m. ET (10:55 a.m. PT), one of 32 boats vying for that title, a field that includes a number of U.S. collegiate crews, as well as national teams and clubs from around the world. Washington will start 12th out of the 32 crews.

The UW eight will feature many of the rowers who won the Temple Challenge Cup at the Henley Royal Regatta this past summer, while several of the UW's international rowers continue to recover from busy summers. The regatta is a chance for some of the rowers hoping to take that next step for the coming year to test themselves on another big stage.

"You earn your opportunities here at Washington, you have to make the most of them," said UW men's coach Michael Callahan. "This is their shot. They have to race in the moment and make it count."

Last year, the UW men finished seventh overall (and fifth among college entries) in the 26-team championship eights, finishing in a time of 13:43.932.

The UW has previously won the men's championship eights on four occasions: in 2008 (14:28.100), 2010 (14:00.402), 2012 (14:37.27) and 2016 (14:40.823).

Washington also had an alumni men's eight in the regatta. That crew finished third (out of 50) in the men's alumni eight competition.

Follow all the action from the Charles via live video fees, available at RowingChannel.com. Additionally, you can follow the live timing at HereNow.com and via the HOCR app.

ALUMNI/FAMILY TENT ON SUNDAY
On Sunday, Washington Rowing will host a complimentary Husky Hospitality Tent just upstream from the Eliot Bridge Enclosure on the Boston side of the river. The tent will be marked by the white blades of Washington and a UW flag. It is not part of the Reunion Village.

The Head of the Charles Regatta is free and open to the public. In addition to exhilarating rowing action on the challenging three-mile course, the Regatta offers a number of family-friendly activities for all ages. Make sure to check out the HOCR.org website for lots more information.
