The Washington men’s and women’s rowing teams will compete this Sunday at the 58th Head of the Charles Regatta, the premier fall rowing event of the year. The Huskies will have two men’s and women’s crews in each of the two marquee eights competitions.

Huskies Isabel van Opzeeland and Mira Calder took top honors in the 4,000-meter race as the Washington women’s rowing team opened the 2023-24 season Sunday at the Burnaby Lake Small Boat Regatta. The regatta featured singles, pairs and doubles competing in a 4,000-meter head race.

The Washington women’s rowing team opens the 2023-24 season with a trip to British Columbia where, this Sunday, they’ll participate in the 12th annual Burnaby Lake Small Boat Invitational. The regatta, held on Burnaby Lake, just east of Vancouver, B.C., is a 4,000-meter head race.

Seven current or former Washington rowers earned medals and a total of 11 qualified their countries for the 2024 Olympic Games as the 2023 World Rowing Championships wrapped up Sunday in Belgrade, Serbia. Coxswain and 2022 UW captain Nina Castagna ’22, along with former Husky rowers Brooke Mooney ’18 and Jessica Thoennes ’18.

The University of Washington will join the Big Ten Conference, leaving the Pac-12 Conference, effective in August 2024, UW President Ana Mari Cauce announced Friday. “The Big Ten is a thriving conference with strong athletic and academic traditions,” Cauce said.
