Washington’s men’s coxed four fell to a crew from Oxford Brookes University Sunday in the final of The Prince Albert Challenge Cup on the final day of the 176th Henley Royal Regatta.
The Washington men’s rowing team’s drive to win The Temple Challenge Cup at 2023 Henley Royal Regatta came to an end with a loss to Oxford Brookes University in a semifinal race Saturday morning.
Both Washington men’s crews won their third consecutive race Friday at Henley Royal Regatta, as the Husky coxed four advanced to The Prince Albert Challenge Cup final and the UW eight earned a spot in The Temple Challenge Cup semifinals.
The Washington men’s rowing team’s coxed four won its Prince Albert Challenge Cup quarterfinal race Thursday morning at Henley Royal Regatta, earning a spot in Friday’s semifinals. Meanwhile, a number of UW men’s and women’s alumni also competed, with several moving through to quarterfinals.
The Washington men’s rowing team had both of its two crews advance Wednesday on the second day of competition at the Henley Royal Regatta. Washington’s coxed four won its debut in The Prince Albert Challenge Cup, while the Husky eight won for the second day in a row, in The Temple Challenge Cup.
The Washington men’s rowing team won its race in The Temple Challenge Cup on the opening day of the Henley Royal Regatta Tuesday, beating the ’91 A.S.R. Nereus “B” crew, from the Netherlands, in a round-of-32 race.
The Washington rowing program mourns the passing of former UW oarsman Jon Runstad ’64, a two-time IRA champion who went on to become one of the program’s most ardent and loyal supporters. Runstad passed away Tuesday, June 20, after a battle with cancer, his family has shared.
Rowers Jack Walkey and Logan Ullrich, along with coxswain Nick Dunlop, were named to the All-America first team, while Darcy McCluskey, Max Heid and Povilas Juskevicius all earned a spot on the second team.
Washington’s men’s rowing team will send two crews to compete at the 176th Henley Royal Regatta, which gets underway June 27, in Henley-on-Thames, England. The Huskies will row in the Temple Challenge Cup, for college eights, and in the Prince Albert Challenge Cup, which is for college coxed fours.
The Washington men’s rowing team earned a second-place finish in the varsity eight grand final at 2023 Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championship Sunday at Mercer Lake, falling to defending champion California by just 1.244 seconds.
